SECL speeds up employment to landowners, 337 employments sanctioned so far in the year 24-25

Company registered 30% increase in employment sanctions as compared to last year

SECL, one of the largest coal companies in the country, is working on a large scale towards ensuring the employment of landowners. In the current financial year, from the month of April till now, SECL has provided employment approval to 337 landowners. Thus, compared to the same period of the previous financial year, the company has registered an increase of 30%.

With the mantra of “Samvedansheel Prabandhan – Samvadsheel Prabandhan”, the company is prioritising the interests of landowners. The company has provided employment approval to about 1748 landowners since April 2022.

Talking about the financial year 22-23, the company has provided employment to 704 landowners, while in the last financial year 23-24, 707 landowners were provided employment, which is the highest figure in the last 10 years.
Coal India has set a target of producing 1 billion tonnes of coal by the year 2026-27 and SECL will have to produce 250 million tonnes of coal. For this, the current production capacity of the mines will have to be expanded, for which timely acquisition of land is pretty crucial.
Keeping in view the future goal, SECL is constantly striving to provide swift employment and proper settlement to the landowners by simplifying the process of land acquisition and employment. The company has implemented a special R&R package in its megaprojects Gevra, Dipka and Kusmunda in which landowners are getting better compensation. And the company is starting to see this initiative bear fruit.
It is noteworthy that in the recently released list of world’s top 10 mines, SECL’s Gevra and Kusmunda mines have got second and fourth place respectively. In the last financial year, Gevra has recorded 59 MT coal production and Kusmunda has recorded 50 MT coal production. Gevra has also received environmental clearance of 70 million tonnes, which has paved the way for it to become the world’s largest coal mine.
