- Intellectual discussion on Tagore’s death anniversary at Kushabhau Thackeray University
The integration of the Indian knowledge tradition into the modern education system is crucial for the all-round development of students, the inculcation of moral values, and mental well-being. It provides a practical and holistic approach by combining ancient scientific thought, astronomy, Ayurveda, yoga, and philosophy with modern science. On the occasion of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore’s death anniversary, Kushabhau Thakre University of Journalism and Mass Communication, Raipur, organized a dignified intellectual discussion on the topic “The Importance of the Indian Knowledge Tradition in Modern Education.” At the event, academicians shared their views on national consciousness, character building, and the integration of ancient knowledge in modern contexts.

Presiding over the program, Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Dayal stated that the national anthem, Jana Gana Mana, is not merely a formal song, but the essence of India’s knowledge tradition, philosophy, and spirituality. He explained that Gurudev Tagore has woven India’s inclusive spirit into it, rather than narrow Western nationalism, embodying the Upanishadic value of “sah navvatu, sah nau bhunaktu” (walk together, grow together).

Discussing character building and respect for nature, which were key points of intellectual discourse, Dr. Kapil Dev Prajapati clarified that the fundamental goals of the ancient Indian education system were character building, personality development, social service, and devotion to nature. Discussing the continuously evolving knowledge tradition, Prof. Shailendra Khandelwal said that Indian knowledge is not static but has continuously evolved according to time and circumstances. To understand this in depth, ongoing research is required.

Similarly, on the inclusion of global knowledge, Dr. Rajendra Mohanty suggested that, along with preserving Indianness, the best and most modern knowledge from around the world should also be incorporated into the education policy. On the revival of endangered knowledge, Dr. Ashutosh Mandavi emphasized that efforts should be made to rediscover and revive ancient knowledge that has been lost over time in modern contexts.
The Chairman of the Department of Journalism, Mr. Pankaj Nayan Pandey, Registrar Sunil Sharma, Head of the Department Dr. Nripendra Sharma along with professors and researchers from all the faculties of the university were present in the program.
