Plans are underway to expand the Hospital Management Information System (HMIS)—developed under the guidance of the Vigilance Department—to the Coal India level; over 2.2 lakh employees will benefit.
The Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) developed at SECL will now be implemented across the entire Coal India organization. An integrated hospital management system for Coal India will be created based on this SECL-developed system, benefiting more than 2.2 lakh employees. This initiative will advance efforts to link healthcare-related processes across the hospitals of various subsidiary companies through a unified digital framework.
The HMIS was launched at SECL on May 27, 2026, by the Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines, Shri Satish Chandra Dubey. Its objective is to digitize and secure patient medical records while streamlining hospital management.
- Centralized Information: From Registration to Treatment
The HMIS facilitates the digital recording of patient registration, medical consultations, treatments, and medication details. This ensures that a patient’s medical information is systematically available and makes it easy to access past records when needed.
The system also incorporates features for the online processing of medical reimbursement claims, as well as management systems for ‘Amrit Aushadhi Kendras’ (pharmacies) and medication inventory. These measures will help reduce paperwork, improve record-keeping, and facilitate the monitoring of various operational stages.
- Pivotal Role of the Vigilance Department
SECL’s Vigilance Department played a crucial role in developing and advancing this initiative. Under the department’s guidance, efforts were made to enhance transparency, accountability, and monitoring in healthcare processes through digital means. Recognizing the utility of the system developed at SECL, steps are now being taken to expand it to the Coal India level. SECL’s Chief Vigilance Officer, Shri Himanshu Jain, said,
“An effort has been made to digitally streamline processes related to healthcare services through the HMIS. This will facilitate better management of medical records, monitoring of procedures, and enhanced accountability. Extending this system—developed at SECL—to the Coal India level marks a significant step in advancing this initiative.”
The expansion of the HMIS to the Coal India level will foster the digitization of medical records across various hospitals, ensure procedural uniformity, improve monitoring, and promote digital coordination in hospital management.
