Chhattisgarh’s first women’s open jail (Women Open Correctional Institution – OCI) was inaugurated at Central Jail, Raipur, by the Director General (Prisons), Shri Himanshu Gupta. Shri Yogesh Singh Kshatri (Jail Superintendent), Smt. Khushbu Mishra (In-charge, Women’s Open Jail), and other officials and staff of the Prison Department were present on the occasion.
This is the first time such a women’s open jail has been established in the state of Chhattisgarh. The open jail has been set up by utilizing the existing infrastructure at Raipur Jail. Twenty-five female inmates will be housed in this open jail; they will step out of the prison in the morning to perform various tasks and return in the evening before the lock-up time.
Employment opportunities will be provided to the female inmates at a tailoring center, a beauty parlor, and a sales outlet for prison products, all located in a complex near the temple outside the high prison walls. Other alternative avenues for employment will also be available to them.
