Amidst heavy rain, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma arrived in Chandanpur late Friday night, carrying the official gazette notification confirming the village’s new identity. He met with villagers who had long demanded the name change, handed over a copy of the gazette, and congratulated them. Despite the rain, a large number of villagers gathered to welcome him. Overjoyed by the fulfillment of their demand, the villagers exchanged sweets and accorded a warm welcome to the Deputy CM. The name of Chandalpur village in Kabirdham district has now been officially changed to Chandanpur.
Amidst the celebrations over the name change, the Deputy CM announced a grant of ₹11.70 lakh for village development works, specifically for a CC road and a community hall. He stated that a special camp would be organized for the convenience of the villagers. This camp will facilitate the process of updating the village name in documents such as Aadhaar cards, sparing residents the trouble of visiting multiple government offices. The Chhattisgarh government has duly published the name change of Chandanpur village in the official gazette. Consequently, the village’s new name will now be permanently recorded in government archives and official web portals.
Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma noted that the villagers had been demanding the name change for a long time. A proposal was prepared and submitted to the government, taking into account the sentiments and demands of the local people. Following discussions at the cabinet level and the Governor’s approval, the change was finally published in the official gazette. He stated that following its publication in the official gazette, the name ‘Chandanpur’ will now be recorded in government records and relevant official web portals. He urged the villagers to use the village’s new name, ‘Chandanpur’, in their daily interactions and conversations so that future generations recognize the village by this name and its identity is preserved.
The Deputy Chief Minister remarked that village names are not merely identifiers of a location; they are also intertwined with local history, culture, traditions, and the sentiments of the people.
