- A special health camp was organized under the initiative of the Chhattisgarh Government; alongside health check-ups for children and students, information regarding the prevention of monsoon-related illnesses was provided.
A special health camp was organized by a Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) for the children and students residing at the Prayas Hostel in Saddu, under an initiative by the Chhattisgarh Government. Two teams from the MMU participated in the camp, providing health check-ups, medical consultations, treatment, and medicine distribution directly within the hostel premises.
The entire medical team—comprising doctors, nurses, lab technicians, and pharmacists—was present at the camp. Healthcare workers conducted general health check-ups, listened to health-related concerns, and provided treatment and medical advice as needed. Necessary medicines were also provided on-site to patients requiring them.
- Health Check-ups Conducted for 468 People, Including Children
A total of 468 people underwent OPD check-ups during the special health camp. This included a significant number of children and students residing at the Prayas Hostel; according to available data, 110 children were examined.
Following the check-ups, necessary medicines were distributed to 463 patients. The camp focused not only on general health issues but also on health problems arising from seasonal changes.
In addition to general check-ups, facilities for necessary laboratory tests were made available at the camp site. A total of 19 lab tests were conducted, aiding in a better assessment of the patients’ health status.
- Promoting Disease Prevention Alongside Treatment
A key feature of the camp was a health awareness drive. The medical team educated the children and students about illnesses common during the monsoon season and the methods to prevent them. Health workers explained that the risk of diseases like dengue and malaria increases during the rainy season due to the proliferation of mosquitoes and the accumulation of stagnant water. Additionally, contaminated water and unhygienic food can lead to the spread of waterborne diseases.
Children were educated on simple yet crucial practices, such as regular handwashing, consuming clean and safe drinking water, keeping food covered, maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings, and preventing water stagnation. Information regarding personal precautions to protect against mosquitoes was also provided.
The medical team advised the children not to ignore symptoms such as fever, weakness, vomiting, diarrhea, body aches, or other unusual signs of illness, and to seek timely medical advice.
- Healthcare Services Brought to the Hostel
A highlight of the special camp organized at the Prayas Hostel was that the children and students did not need to leave the premises for health check-ups or first aid. A mobile medical unit team visited the hostel complex and provided health services right there.
Under an initiative by the Chhattisgarh government, mobile medical units are not only bringing healthcare services closer to the people but also emphasizing disease prevention, hygiene, and health awareness. The special camp at Prayas Hostel was a step in this direction; alongside medical treatment, children and students received guidance on staying healthy and protecting themselves from illnesses during the monsoon season.
There was no need to refer any patients to other facilities during the camp. However, information regarding relevant health centers was provided for future medical needs should they arise.
