- On Gandhi Jayanti, girls receive a new facility promoting hygiene, health, and dignity
- Target set to construct girls’ toilets in 6,671 rural government schools across the state
Conveying a message of cleanliness and respect for daughters on the birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, the first girls’ toilet under the ‘Meri Beti–Mera Abhiman’ (My Daughter–My Pride) campaign was inaugurated in Gram Panchayat Dhuma, located in the Kurud development block of Dhamtari district. Constructed under the ‘Viksit Bharat–Rozgar aur Aajivika Guarantee Mission (Rural)’—also known as the VB-G Ram Ji scheme—this toilet represents a significant step toward realizing the state’s ‘Meri Beti–Mera Abhiman’ campaign at the grassroots level.

During the inauguration of the newly built, pink-hued girls’ toilet, young girls held placards bearing the campaign’s message, thereby advocating for cleanliness, safety, and respect for daughters. The active participation of villagers, public representatives, and children made the event, held on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, truly special.
‘Meri Beti–Mera Abhiman’ Campaign Launched on August 6
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai launched the state-wide ‘Meri Beti–Mera Abhiman’ campaign under the VB-G Ram Ji scheme on August 6, 2026. The campaign is being conducted from August 15, 2026, to January 26, 2027. Under this initiative, a target has been set to construct girls’ toilets in 6,671 government schools across the state’s rural areas at an estimated cost of approximately ₹286.85 crore. The campaign aims to provide safe and hygienic toilet facilities to girls studying in rural schools while creating an environment that supports their health, hygiene, and dignity. Continuous Oversight from Construction to Inauguration in Dhuma
The girls’ toilet facility in Dhuma is not an initiative that came together overnight. During a visit to the Kurud development block, Mr. Taran Prakash Sinha—Commissioner of ‘Viksit Bharat-G Ram Ji’ and Director of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin)—visited the Dhuma Gram Panchayat to conduct an on-site inspection of the construction work.

In addition to reviewing the progress, he inquired about wage payments from the workers engaged in the project and issued directives to officials for timely action. Its inauguration about a month later, coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti, demonstrates the campaign’s objectives being successfully realized on the ground.
Under the ‘Meri Beti–Mera Abhiman’ (My Daughter, My Pride) campaign, the government’s mission is to ensure the availability of toilets for girls in every school across the state by January 26, 2027.
