The sacred land of Chhattisgarh has been witness to sacrifice, austerity, struggle, and self-respect for centuries. Its dense forests, mountains, and woodlands have borne countless tales of independence, shaking the foundations of British rule. The indomitable courage and supreme sacrifice of these tribal heroes, who never received their due place in the pages of history, have now found a new identity. Built in Nava Raipur Atal Nagar under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai and the guidance of Tribal Welfare Minister Ramvichar Netam, the “Martyr Veer Narayan Singh Memorial cum Tribal Freedom Fighter Museum” has emerged as a unique confluence of tribal valor, self-respect, and modern digital technology. This magnificent museum is not only a center for the preservation of historical heritage, but also a living symbol of the nation’s gratitude to those immortal martyrs who sacrificed everything for the motherland’s independence and the protection of its water, forests, and land.
On November 1, 2025, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi dedicated this magnificent museum to the nation on the historic occasion of the silver jubilee of the establishment of Chhattisgarh state. This occasion was not merely the inauguration of a museum, but a meaningful expression of the resolve to give national recognition to the glorious history of tribal society. Built at a cost of approximately ₹50 to ₹55 crore, this state-of-the-art museum is one of the country’s unique projects presenting the history of the tribal freedom struggle through digital technology.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, the Chhattisgarh government has taken significant initiatives to preserve the cultural heritage, traditions, and historical contributions of tribal communities. This museum embodies that vision, which, along with development, embodies the resolve to preserve our roots, culture, and the sacrifices of our ancestors. The creation of this historic heritage, especially under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Sai, who comes from a tribal background, elevates the pride and self-respect of the state’s tribal communities to new heights.

The courage and self-respect displayed by Veer Narayan Singh, the immortal martyr of Sonakhan, during India’s first war of independence in 1857, remains alive in the collective consciousness of Chhattisgarh. His struggle against the injustice and exploitation of British rule was not merely a rebellion, but a unique example of human values, social justice, and devotion to the motherland. This museum brings to life the stories of Veer Narayan Singh and countless other tribal warriors whose struggles formed the foundation of the freedom movement.
Located on the campus of the Tribal Research and Training Institute, this museum’s magnificent galleries introduce visitors to chapters of history that every Indian is proud to know. Over 650 lifelike sculptures depict impressive depictions of tribal struggles. Historical events such as the Halba Rebellion, the Surguja Rebellion, the Bhopalpatnam Rebellion, the Paralkot Rebellion, the Tarapur Rebellion, the Lingagiri Rebellion, the Koi Rebellion, the Maria Rebellion, the Muria Rebellion, the Rani Chauris Rebellion, the Bhumkal Rebellion, and the Sonakhan Rebellion transport visitors to an era of tribal valor when, despite limited resources, our ancestors challenged the mighty British Empire. Special galleries dedicated to the Flag Satyagraha and the Jungle Satyagraha further elaborate on Chhattisgarh’s contribution to the freedom movement.
The museum’s most significant feature is its remarkable blend of history and modern technology. Through cutting-edge VFX technology, digital projection, audio-visual presentations, and lifelike sculptures, historical events are presented in such a way that visitors feel like witnesses to that era. Here, history isn’t just read or seen, but experienced. The battlefield atmosphere, the struggles of valiant warriors, the lifestyle of tribal communities, and the sacrifices made for independence come alive through modern technology.
A digital information system gives this museum its distinctive identity. Digital boards, QR codes, and other modern tools installed in each gallery provide visitors with detailed information about relevant historical events. Scanning a QR code with a mobile phone provides access to important historical information. Trained guides also introduce visitors to tribal rebellions and the contributions of freedom fighters. This museum is thus becoming an important center for history, research, education, and tourism.
Special attention has also been paid to visitor convenience. The museum complex provides facilities such as clean drinking water, organized parking, CCTV security, first aid, wheelchairs for the disabled, and a childcare room for pregnant mothers. These arrangements make visiting the museum convenient and informative for children, the elderly, students, and families.
Since its inauguration, people’s attraction towards this historical museum has been continuously increasing. According to available information, one to two thousand visitors are reaching here on normal days and four to five thousand on holidays. The fact that more than three lakh visitors have visited the museum since its inauguration till now reflects its increasing popularity. Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Justice Surya Kant, internationally renowned boxer Mary Kom, administrative officers of various states, police officers, army personnel and foreign tourists have also appreciated the tribal bravery stories displayed here and the rich heritage of Chhattisgarh.
This museum not only preserves memories of the past, but also serves as a powerful source of inspiration for future generations. Students and youth, in particular, gain an opportunity to understand that India’s independence wasn’t solely the result of the struggles of a few metropolitan cities or select movements, but that tribal communities living in remote forest areas also made extraordinary sacrifices. Therefore, this memorial plays a vital role in strengthening national consciousness, cultural pride, and patriotism.
The museum is also expanding new tourism opportunities in Chhattisgarh. The growing number of tourists, both domestic and foreign, is boosting local employment, tourism services, and economic activity. Naya Raipur is now developing as a modern administrative capital as well as an important center for tribal history and cultural tourism.
Built under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, this magnificent monument is proof that respecting our historical heritage while transmitting it to new generations through modern technology is the only meaningful direction for cultural preservation. Under the steady guidance of Tribal Welfare Minister Shri Ramvichar Netam, this museum has become a strong bridge between Chhattisgarh’s glorious past and bright future.
This magnificent digital monument, erected on the soil of Nawa Raipur, will keep the eternal flame of tribal pride burning for centuries to come. Each gallery, each statue, and each historical scene conveys the message that the true meaning of independence is not merely freedom from subjugation, but rather an unwavering resolve to protect one’s culture, identity, and self-respect.
The history of independence, written with the blood of Chhattisgarh’s brave tribal ancestors, has been given new expression by modern technology under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai. This is not just a museum, but a national proclamation of the revival of history, honoring the martyrs, and the pride of tribal identity.
