Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana easing concerns over daughters’ marriages

Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana is alleviating the financial burden on parents from economically weaker families by facilitating the marriage of their daughters. As soon as their daughters reach marriageable age, parents often begin to worry. Every parent dreams of celebrating their daughter’s marriage lavishly, but financial constraints often make this dream unattainable. In such circumstances, the ‘Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana’ is significantly easing the financial worries of thousands of families. The scheme’s primary objective is to address the financial challenges faced by underprivileged families, curb excessive wedding expenses, and bring about a social change through mass marriages.

Under the scheme, the state government provides a grant assistance amount of Rs 50,000. Each girl receives Rs 21,000 via bank transfer or bank draft, along with gifts worth Rs 15,000. In the fiscal year 2023-24, 160 couples were married under this scheme in the district.

Reflecting on her experience, Smt. Rajkumari Dewangan from Mahasamund Ward No. 5 shared, “I got married on March 12 this year under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana. My father is not with us, so my mother and family were worried about my marriage. I registered through the Anganwadi worker and benefited from this scheme. I am very happy with my husband, and my family is grateful for the government’s initiative.”

Similarly, Smt. Rakhi Sikka expressed, “Due to poverty, arranging my marriage was challenging for my family. This scheme has made it much easier for us.” Both beneficiaries extended their thanks to Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, acknowledging that the scheme has relieved their parents of financial burdens.
