Tree plantation drive gets new momentum in “Swachhata Hi Sewa” campaign
In line with the visionary “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) has planted 1,46,675 saplings in its operational areas in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. This initiative was a part of the nationwide plantation drive “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” launched by Hon’ble Minister of Coal and Mines Shri G. Kishan Reddy in July 2024 in the Coal and Mines Industry PSUs across the country.
SECL carried out the tree plantation drive in an area of over 56 hectares in 8 districts of Chhattisgarh and 3 districts of Madhya Pradesh. Additionally, the Company distributed 25,000 saplings to the communities living around its mining areas, thereby further promoting environmental conservation.
‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ gave new impetus to the campaign
The tree plantation efforts under “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” were further strengthened as part of the “Swachhata Hi Seva” campaign of 2024. As part of this campaign, SECL planted additional 4,200 saplings, reinforcing its commitment towards both environmental protection and public hygiene.
Kusmunda Mine Plants 501 Saplings to Commemorate 501 Lakh Tonnes of Coal Production
SECL’s Kusmunda Mine, the fourth largest coal mine in the world, achieved a unique feat by planting 501 saplings in a single day to commemorate the achievement of 501 lakh tonne (50 million tonnes) of coal production during FY 2023-24. This initiative strengthened SECL’s pledge to promote green growth while also meeting the energy requirements of the nation.
SECL is committed to forest development in Koyalanchal: 26 lakh saplings to be planted in Chhattisgarh in five years
SECL is going to invest Rs 169 crore over the next five years on a comprehensive tree plantation drive in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. In partnership with the State Forest Development Corporation, the company aims to plant over 26 lakh saplings in Chhattisgarh and 12 lakh in Madhya Pradesh between 2023-24 and 2027-28.
Revolutionary Miyawaki technique for faster green cover
To further accelerate afforestation efforts, SECL has introduced the innovative Japanese Miyawaki technique, which promotes faster green cover development. A pilot project using this method has already been launched in Gevra area in an area of over 2 hectares. Since its inception, SECL has planted over 3 crore saplings in its operational areas thereby strengthening environmental conservation efforts in the region.
