- Illegal liquor and vehicles worth Rs 67 lakh 34 thousand seized
Madhya Pradesh Police is continuously taking legal action against the manufacture, transportation, and sale of illicit liquor. In separate cases in Sheopur and Katni districts, police took action against illicit liquor, confiscating liquor and vehicles worth ₹67.34 lakh and arresting the accused.
As part of an operation in Sheopur district, the rural police station stopped a suspicious truck at a blockade on the Rajasthan-Sheopur border. A search of the vehicle revealed 635 cases of foreign liquor, totaling 4,863 bulk liters of illicit liquor, which was confiscated along with the truck. The estimated value of the seized liquor and truck is ₹58,90,000. Two accused have been arrested and action has been taken under the Excise Act.
In Katni district, information was received from an informant that some people were traveling towards Katni in a car carrying illicit liquor. Acting on this information, police conducted a vehicle check in Deori Tola village. During the investigation, when an attempt was made to stop a suspicious car, the driver sped off towards the Maihar bypass road. When the police team pursued, the suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled. A search of the car at the scene revealed 24 cases of country liquor, totaling 216 bulk liters of illicit liquor. The car, along with the vehicle (estimated value approximately ₹844,000), was confiscated. During the investigation, one suspect was arrested and action was taken under the Excise Act. The search for the other suspects continues.
In both the cases, other aspects related to supply and transportation of illicit liquor are being investigated.
