  • Newborn gets new life in Dantewada District Hospital

A seven-day battle between life and death on a ventilator finally ended in victory thanks to the doctors’ dedication and tireless efforts. The doctors and Special Neonatal Care Unit (SNCU) staff at Dantewada District Hospital have skillfully given a newborn baby girl a new lease on life, representing not only a successful treatment but also an example of unwavering dedication and excellent teamwork. This struggle began when Manju Alami, a resident of Padmata Schoolpara in the Geedam development block, gave birth to a baby girl on May 10th. This joyous atmosphere suddenly turned to worry when the newborn’s condition deteriorated immediately after birth. The baby experienced severe breathing difficulties, her sugar levels were constantly dropping, and she was experiencing frequent seizures. The condition was so critical that even referring her to a higher medical institution could have been extremely risky and fatal.

In such challenging circumstances, the pediatricians at the district hospital acted swiftly and immediately admitted the child to the special neonatal care unit. Relying on the hospital’s resources and expertise, the doctors made the bold decision to begin treatment. Subsequently, the child was placed on ventilator support for seven days, where doctors and nursing staff, regardless of their own hunger, thirst, and sleep, monitored her 24-hours a day. During this period, the child’s every heartbeat and every breath were monitored minute by minute. The results of the doctors’ diligent work and excellent medical management became evident after seven days when the child’s condition began to improve and she was removed from the ventilator. However, she remained under the close supervision of doctors until she fully recovered. After nearly a month of extensive treatment and sensitive care, the child was discharged from the hospital on June 13th in a completely healthy state.
Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Ajay Ramteke stated that successfully giving a new life to a critically ill newborn while on ventilator support is a significant achievement of the neonatal department at the district hospital. This success reflects the dedication of the doctors and the continuously improving level of health services in the district.
