Madhya Pradesh State Women’s Commission organized a large public hearing in Bhopal, taking a major initiative in the direction of protection of women’s rights and settlement of family disputes. While hearing a total of 28 serious cases that came before the Commission, many families were saved from breaking up, while strict directions were also issued in some complex cases. Commission Chairperson Mrs. Rekha Yadav, Member Mrs. Sadhana Sthapak and Secretary Mr. Suresh Tomar were specially present in this high level public hearing.
- From domestic violence to cyber crimes, prompt legal action has been directed
During the public hearing, cases related to domestic violence, workplace harassment, serious family disputes and cyber crimes, which are increasing rapidly in the present time, came up prominently before the Commission. The Commission heard the arguments of both the parties and the parties with utmost sensitivity. Considering the seriousness of the matter, necessary directions and immediate legal action were ordered to the concerned officials on the spot.
- Resolving domestic differences through mutual dialogue
Humane and guiding face of the commission also came out in this public hearing. In a family dispute case, where the petitioner filed a complaint against her husband, a bench of the Commission conducted intensive counseling of both the parties. After extensive discussion and negotiation, a mutual settlement was reached between the husband and wife and the woman happily withdrew her complaint. In another case, where the wife was ready to live with her husband but the husband was refusing on various charges, the commission directed both to resolve their differences through mutual dialogue or advise them to adopt appropriate legal approach in the matter.
A unique and serious case also came up in the public hearing, which shocked everyone. In a family dispute the complainant (wife) herself was absent while her husband appeared before the Commission. The husband narrates his story and says that they have been married for 18 years, but since his wife has been appointed as an ‘officer’ in the government service, she has refused to live with him. Husband’s allegation is that she is living apart by making false accusations and is not ready to talk.
Considering the seriousness of the case and the absence of the petitioner, President Smt. Yadav has issued instructions that the presence of both the petitioner (female officer) and the non-petitioner (husband) will be mandatory in the upcoming public hearing, so that the case can be impartially investigated and judged.
- A decision to speed up the justice process
Commission President Smt. Yadav said that the Women’s Commission is committed to providing justice to every aggrieved woman and reuniting the families, but misuse of the platform by any party will not be tolerated.
