- Data-driven hyperlocal intervention program launched
- The first phase will be implemented in 10 sensitive districts.
A one-day workshop and training program on data-driven hyperlocal interventions was organized in Raipur today, jointly by the Chhattisgarh government’s Transport Department and the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras’s Center for Excellence in Road Safety. The chief guest was Minister of Forests, Transport, Housing and Environment, and Cooperation, Mr. Kedar Kashyap.
On this occasion, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Chhattisgarh Government and IIT Madras CoERS for the implementation of the program. The objective of this partnership is to reduce road accidents in the state through a scientific and data-driven approach. Officials were told at the workshop that by analyzing road accident data, black spots and accident-prone areas will be identified, hyperlocal road safety measures and low-cost engineering interventions will be implemented. Evidence-based decisions will be taken by timely identifying black spots through the ‘Sanjay’ platform.
In the first phase, 10 districts in the state have been identified as the most vulnerable to road accidents. In these districts, officials from the district administration, police, transport, and public works departments will receive phased training. Following the training, a data-based road safety action plan will be developed for each district, tailored to local conditions.
Transport Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap said that every road accident is an irreparable loss for a family. The state government’s goal is not only to reduce the number of accidents, but also to develop a safe road system that allows every citizen to reach their home safely. This initiative is an important step towards building a safe Chhattisgarh.
Transport Department Secretary Mr. S. Prakash said that the Sanjay platform will enable scientific identification of accident-prone sites and timely intervention. He called on all departments to make coordinated efforts to make Chhattisgarh accident-free.
The workshop was attended by the Collectors, SPs, RTOs, DTOs, District Road Safety Managers of NIC and Nodal Officers of District Road Safety Committees of the selected 10 districts. Transport department officials said that data-based planning and prompt intervention will effectively reduce road accidents and fatalities.
