- Initiatives to promote scientific fisheries, with emphasis on increasing income and fish production
Under the Spawn Cultivation Scheme, run by the Fisheries Department of the Chhattisgarh government, tribal fish farmers in the state are being encouraged to practice scientific fish farming. In this regard, free quality fish seed (spawn) and nursery nets were distributed to four Scheduled Tribe fish farmers from the Odgi and Pratappur development blocks of Surajpur district.
High-quality spawn produced at the Basdei Fish Seed Project was delivered to beneficiaries through safe oxygen packaging, ensuring the quality and viability of the fish seed during transportation. Nursery nets were also provided to each beneficiary for better preservation and cultivation of the spawn.
On this occasion, Fisheries Department officials provided practical training to beneficiaries on scientific pond preparation, spawn harvesting, nursery management, water quality protection, and modern fish farming techniques. This will help fish farmers achieve better production at lower costs.
The Fisheries Department aims to increase the income of Scheduled Tribe fish farmers by providing them with quality fish seed, necessary resources, and technical guidance, and to promote fish production in the state. This initiative by the department is considered an important step towards developing fish farming as a powerful means of self-employment and livelihood in rural and tribal areas.
