- Officials and Workers’ Representatives Take Safety Pledge, Reaffirm Commitment to “Safety First, Prosperity Through Safety”
The 62nd Company-Level Bipartite Safety Committee Meeting of South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) was held at Vasant Club, SECL Headquarters, Bilaspur, on Wednesday. During the meeting, officials and workers’ representatives reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the culture of workplace safety by taking the pledge of “Safety First, Prosperity Through Safety” and collectively resolving to work towards the goal of Zero Accidents. The Bipartite Safety Committee serves as SECL’s highest forum for dialogue between the management and workers’ representatives on matters related to occupational safety.
The meeting was chaired by Shri N. Franklin Jayakumar, Director (Technical/Operations), in the presence of Shri Ramesh Chandra Mohapatra, Director (Technical/Planning & Projects). General Managers of all Areas, Heads of Departments, members of the Bipartite Safety Committee, and representatives of various trade unions participated in the meeting. The programme commenced with the welcome address by Shri Prakash Rai, General Manager (Safety & Rescue).
Administering the Safety Pledge to all participants, Shri N. Franklin Jayakumar emphasised that a strong safety culture is built not merely through compliance with rules but through the awareness, discipline, and responsibility of every employee. He urged all stakeholders to accord the highest priority to safety and work collectively towards achieving the goal of Zero Accidents.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Ramesh Chandra Mohapatra stated that a safe and productive work environment can be ensured only through the adoption of modern technologies, continuous training, and active participation of all stakeholders. He stressed the need for strict adherence to safety standards and their continual improvement.
The meeting reviewed the company’s current safety performance, safety initiatives across different Areas, and the roadmap for further strengthening workplace safety. Representatives of various trade unions shared valuable suggestions, and detailed discussions were held on risk mitigation, enhanced coordination, and measures to further improve safety awareness across operations.
On the occasion, members of the Committee congratulated Shri N. Franklin Jayakumar on his appointment as Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL). The Committee also extended its best wishes to Shri Kamlesh Sharma, Bipartite Safety Committee Member and representative of SCKMC, on his superannuation, appreciating his long and dedicated service.
