 A new direction for lost paths: The government is writing a story of development through rehabilitation in Sukma.

Long affected by Naxalite terror, Sukma is now witnessing a new era of peace, trust, and development. Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai visited the rehabilitation center at the Sukma district headquarters to observe the rehabilitation and skill development activities being conducted there. He interacted cordially with the rehabilitated individuals, learned about their experiences, and congratulated and wished them well as they joined the mainstream and began a new life.

Chief Minister Shri Sai stated that his government is determined to integrate the displaced people into the mainstream and provide them with a dignified life, employment, and equal opportunities for progress. He said that the confidence visible in the eyes of the rehabilitated people is proof that with the right opportunity and guidance, every lost step can find new direction and a new life.

Chief Minister Shri Sai stated that due to the state government’s effective Naxal rehabilitation policy, positive changes are clearly visible in the Bastar region, including Sukma. So far, 2,392 Naxalites have decided to abandon violence and join mainstream society, of whom 361 rehabilitated individuals have started a new life and moved towards self-reliance. He stated that the government’s goal is not limited to rehabilitation alone, but also to provide these citizens with a respectable life, sustainable employment, and equal opportunities in society. Skill development training is being provided at the rehabilitation center in various trades, such as masonry, textile sewing, agricultural entrepreneurship, and driving. 

He said that so far in 2026, 307 beneficiaries have been trained, while 313 youth who have returned to the mainstream are also being provided a stipend of 10,000 rupees per month. The district administration has distributed mobile phones to 107 rehabilitated beneficiaries, enabling them to connect with digital and communication media and move towards a modern lifestyle. In particular, 115 women are setting new examples of self-reliance through training and technical support.

Chief Minister Shri Sai said that providing relief to the dependents of the families affected by Naxal violence, under compassionate appointment, 20 people have been given employment opportunities in the police department and 95 people have been given employment opportunities in government service by the district administration. 

During the program, appointment letters were presented to Mausam Sanjana, a resident of Dhondra Konta village, Bharat Kumar Hemla, a resident of Nagaras Jagargunda, and other beneficiaries. Additionally, appointment letters were also distributed to 10 newly appointed teachers under the Education Department.

At the event, Chief Minister Shri Sai distributed mobile phones, mason kits, house keys under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, and completion certificates to the rehabilitated beneficiaries. On this occasion, 25 beneficiaries were honored by handing over the keys to their houses.

The Chief Minister also released a coffee table book, “The Changing Picture of Sukma: From Rehabilitation to Development,” showcasing inspiring success stories of Naxal rehabilitation. Praising the artists’ performances at the rehabilitation center’s art center, he said that this transformation symbolizes not only physical but also social and mental change.

Health Minister Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal, Bastar MP Shri Mahesh Kashyap along with other public representatives and senior officials were present in the program.
