Adventure in the lap of nature – Mohrenga Nature Safari

  • Gypsy safari and cottage facility started in Mohrenga

Eco-tourism is a journey undertaken close to nature, without harming the environment, and with respect for local culture and wildlife. Its main objective is forest and wildlife conservation, education, and benefiting local communities. New eco-tourism facilities were inaugurated at ‘Nature Safari Mohrenga’ in village Mohrenga near Kharora in Raipur district. MLAs Shri Kiran Singhdev, Anuj Sharma, and Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Shri Arun Kumar Pandey, along with several senior officials, were present.

Forest and Climate Change Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap stated that the state government and the Forest Department are continuously making efforts to promote tourism in Chhattisgarh. He added that Chhattisgarh is known for its dense forests and biodiversity. Our goal is not just to develop tourism, but to create a balance between nature and humans. These newly constructed structures will bring tourists closer to nature, increasing their sensitivity to the environment. Additionally, through eco-tourism, we are creating new employment opportunities for local communities.

This safari is located on the Tilda-Kharora road, about 45 kilometers from Raipur, and covers an area of approximately 500 hectares. The Mohrenga Nature Safari will not only promote tourism but also connect local youth and children with the importance of nature. Tourists can enjoy a 10-kilometer-long gypsy safari. Wildlife such as the chital, wild boar, rabbit, python, and birds such as the bluethroat, cuckoo, and eagle can be seen during the safari.

A watch tower, a children’s play area, and a beautiful garden have also been developed for tourists. Four well-furnished cottages have been built for overnight stays. It is noteworthy that the restaurant is operated by the Jai Maa Ambe Women’s Self-Help Group, promoting women’s empowerment. This provides employment to local women. Mohrenga Nature Safari is a prime example of environmental protection, local employment, and tourism development, and will develop into a major tourist destination near Raipur in the future.

Eight ponds, anicuts, and grasslands have been developed for wildlife in the safari area, where water is supplied through solar-powered pumps. Approximately 16 kilometers of chain-link fencing has also been installed for security. The area is rich in useful trees such as saja, khair, mahua, and arjun, as well as medicinal plants such as white musli and asparagus. The Dohra Tihra Mata temple located here is a major attraction for devotees.
