- Nature lovers are getting a unique experience, awareness towards conservation is increasing.
The ‘Birdwalk’ initiative launched by the Forest Department, Khairagarh, at Eco Camp Chhindari has become a center of attraction for nature lovers and tourists. This initiative is being run under the inspiration of Forest Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap and the guidance of Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), Shri Arun Kumar Pandey. Its objective is to promote local tourism as well as raise awareness about wildlife conservation. Under this program, which started in the year 2026, bird walks are being organized every Saturday and Sunday under the supervision of experts. Common citizens, students and nature lovers are getting the opportunity to participate in it.

It is noteworthy that Eco Camp Chhindari is a biodiversity-rich area, home to approximately 35 percent of Chhattisgarh’s bird species. Visitors are mesmerized by the colorful birds they see up close. Recent birdwalk programs have been enthusiastically attended by music and art students from Khairagarh, along with tourists from Durg, Raipur, and Rajnandgaon. Participants are provided with information about bird behavior, nest building, and their natural habitats. This initiative is not limited to entertainment, but also teaches people to be sensitive to nature. During the walk, participants are encouraged to maintain silence, refrain from using plastic, and respect wildlife habitats.

To encourage tourism, a contribution fee of ₹200 for adults and ₹50 for students has been set. The eco-camp is operated by the local community, with financial and technical support from the Forest Department. Eco-Camp Chhindari offers bird walks, boating, tenting, camping, and the enjoyment of Chhattisgarhi traditional cuisine such as Fara, Thethri, and Khurmi. This natural beauty-filled site is developing into an ideal tourist destination.
The Forest Department has urged interested citizens to register in advance to participate in the bird walk, ensuring a well-organized and peaceful experience for everyone. This initiative is playing a vital role in promoting eco-tourism and raising public awareness about environmental conservation.
