- 300 patients benefited, over 7,000 dialysis sessions successfully completed
The modern dialysis unit established at the District Hospital, Bemetara, is proving to be a boon for kidney patients. Operated by the Health Department in the Mother and Child Hospital (MCH) building, the facility has provided life-saving treatment to over 300 patients so far.
According to information received, the dialysis facility at the District Hospital was inaugurated on December 8, 2022, under the Prime Minister’s National Dialysis Program, “Jeevandhara.” Since its inception, patients have been provided with free dialysis services. Currently, the unit has five state-of-the-art dialysis machines installed, successfully completing over 7,000 dialysis sessions. An average of over 300 sessions are conducted per month, with 27 active patients currently receiving treatment.
The dialysis unit is regularly inspected by Dr. Asmita Srivastava, MD, Medicine Specialist, and Dr. Lokesh Sahu, Civil Surgeon. According to the dialysis team, all procedures are being conducted in accordance with established standards and safety protocols. Regular testing and periodic maintenance of the machines is ensured, which has led to a continuous improvement in the quality of services. This facility is completely free.

Before the establishment of the dialysis unit, patients had to travel to larger cities for treatment, which resulted in wasted time, money, and mental stress. Now, timely treatment available locally not only ensures life-saving assistance in emergencies but has also significantly reduced the financial burden on patients and their families.
Mrs. Kanti Sahu, 51, a resident of Dhara village in the district, explained that she has been undergoing dialysis for the past three years and six months. Previously, she had to travel to Mungeli and Durg for treatment, which posed difficulties. Currently, for the past one and a half years, she has been receiving regular dialysis three days a week at the District Hospital, Bemetara. Along with free treatment, the doctors and staff here are also extremely supportive, which has brought her great relief.
