The Department of Physics at IIT Bhilai is hosting the first International Conference on Frontiers of High
Energy Physics (ICFHEP 2025) from February 13 to 15, 2025. This marks the inaugural international
conference organized by IIT Bhilai in the field of High Energy Physics (HEP), aiming to bring together
leading scientists, researchers, and students from around the world to discuss the latest developments in
this cutting-edge field.
The conference is convened by Dr. Sudhanwa Patra, Associate Professor of Physics at IIT Bhilai,
alongside the organizing team consisting of Dr. Sabyasachi Ghosh and Dr. Mahavir Sharma (Head of the
Department of Physics), with substantial contributions from the PhD students of the Department of
Physics. The event began with an inaugural ceremony on February 13, 2025, graced by Director Prof.
Rajiv Prakash, Prof. Sheo Kumar Pandey (Former VC, PRSU), and Prof. Urjit Yajnik (IIT Bombay).
A key highlight of the conference is the participation of renowned physicists, including Prof. Frank F.
Deppisch (UCL, UK), Prof. Bhupal Dev (WUSTL, USA), Prof. Amol Dighe (TIFR Mumbai), Prof. Urjit
A. Yajnik (IIT Bombay), and Prof. Sanjit Mitra (IUCAA, Pune). Over 100 participants, including young
researchers and students, are attending, with around 30% of the attendees coming from local colleges,
thus encouraging the next generation of physicists to explore cutting-edge research in Physics.
The conference covers critical topics such as Multi-messenger Astrophysics, Neutrino Phenomenology
and Oscillations, Flavour Anomalies and Hints of BSM Physics, LHC and Collider Phenomenology, Dark
Matter and Gravitational Wave Physics, Astroparticle Physics and Cosmology, Quark-Gluon Plasma
Physics, and Machine Learning.
ICFHEP 2025 is financially supported by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), the
Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), and the Department of Physics at IIT Bhilai. This support is aimed
at fostering a collaborative and enriching academic environment for researchers from India and abroad.
The success of the conference is made possible by the collaborative efforts of the Department of Physics
at IIT Bhilai, the student volunteers, the Conference Advisory Committee, and the esteemed Director of
IIT Bhilai, Prof. Rajiv Prakash, whose vision and guidance have been instrumental in shaping this event.
Prof. Prakash envisions Bhilai becoming a major global hub for science and technology.
The conference aims to foster collaboration among leading experts and budding researchers, providing a
dynamic platform for discussions on recent discoveries, experimental progress, and theoretical
advancements in fundamental physics.
