A four-day Orientation Program for newly admitted first-year B.Tech, M.Tech, and Ph.D.
students at IIIT Naya Raipur took place from August 25–29, 2025. This program aimed to
provide a comprehensive introduction to the institute’s culture, academics, administration,
and personality development activities. A total of 375students, along with their parents,
faculty, and staff members, participated in the inaugural sessions, marking an engaging start
to their academic journey.

The proceedings began with an address by Dr. Shrivishal Tripathi, IQAC Coordinator, who
provided an overview of the institute’s NEP framework and its objectives. Highlighting the
significance of the reforms, Prof. O. P. Vyas, Director, IIIT Naya Raipur, elaborated on
various NEP provisions. He informed the students that under the new system, each student’s
academic records will be stored in the national repository through DigiLocker and linked
with the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC). This will enable seamless transfer of credits,
facilitating student mobility and academic exchange with reputed universities across the
country and abroad. Prof. Vyas also emphasized that IIIT Naya Raipur is among the very few
IIITs in the country to have successfully implemented the NEP provisions of Major–Minor
and Honours in B.Tech. degree programs, thereby offering students the freedom to shape
their own academic pathways with specializations of their choice.
The event showcased the five Minor Streams introduced under NEP implementation:
Cyber Security and Digital Forensics – Dr. Satyanarayana Vollala
Business Informatics – Dr. Amit Kumar Agrawal
Digital Humanities – Dr. Sresha Yadav
Digital Mobility (Electric Vehicle Technology) – Dr. Bipin Chandra Mandi
Quantum Technology – Prof. Rajarshi Mahapatra
Each faculty expert explained the growing significance of these areas, reflecting how the
curriculum promotes interdisciplinary learning and future-ready skills.
In his address, Prof. Rajeev Prakash, Director, IIT Bhilai, praised IIIT Naya Raipur’s
academic culture and noted that implementing such flexible learning provisions requires
substantial institutional commitment and resources. He commended the Director and faculty
team for successfully launching the NEP-aligned curriculum. Prof. Prakash further
encouraged students to take advantage of academic mobility opportunities such as semester
exchange programs with institutes like IIT Bhilai, facilitated by the ABC framework. He also
invited IIIT Naya Raipur students and faculty to visit IIT Bhilai for collaborative academic
and research activities. The Chief Guest emphasized that an ecosystem of flexible curricula,
international collaborations, semester exchanges, and research-driven education is crucial for
developing globally competent graduates. He also encouraged students to engage with the
cultural heritage of Chhattisgarh, which he described as a strong foundation for innovation
and growth.
The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Mithilesh Kumar Chaube, Dean (R&I),
who expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, the Director, faculty, and participants. He
