Inaugural lecture by Taubman, IP Director, World Trade Organization (WTO) on “Emerging IP Jurisprudence and Changing Trends in IP Teaching and Research” at HNLU’s ten-day National Faculty Development Programme (FDP)

Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU), Raipur, under the aegis of its DPIIT-IPR Chair, successfully inaugurated a ten-day National Faculty Development Program (FDP) on “Emerging IP Jurisprudence and Changing Trends in IP Teaching and Research.” The program aims to provide a comprehensive academic platform for higher education faculty, researchers, and professionals to engage with contemporary developments in intellectual property (IP) law and pedagogy.

The FDP reflects a comprehensive national vision consistent with innovation-driven growth and the development of a knowledge-based economy. It aims not only to enhance participants’ theoretical understanding, but also to strengthen research capabilities, encourage interdisciplinary exploration, and promote high-quality scholarship in intellectual property law.

The opening lecture of the ten-day FDP at HNLU was delivered by Mr. Antony Taubman, Director of the Intellectual Property Division of the World Trade Organization (WTO). In his insightful address, Mr. Taubman emphasized the growing importance of intellectual property in shaping global trade, innovation ecosystems, and knowledge economies. He stressed the need for a conducive legal framework and strong academic engagement to address emerging challenges in the IP field, especially in the context of rapidly evolving technologies and cross-border regulatory dynamics. He analyzed the convergences and divergences between the WIOP and the WTO from an international law perspective.

Earlier, HNL University Vice Chancellor Professor Vivekanandan in his inaugural address emphasized on the transition of innovation to the market, which requires understanding the complex system of IP in the international perspective.

The program, consisting of 20 90-minute sessions, will be held from April 6th to 16th. Organized by Dr. Ankit Singh, Chair in Charge of IP at HNLU, and his team, it will invite leading IP experts from academia, the Bar Association, and the judiciary. The program has over 70 registered participants from law faculty, researchers, and industry.
