Khelo India Tribal Games: Jharkhand’s Anjit Munda, tempered in the furnace of struggles, became gold, won gold medal in wrestling.

  • Serving as ‘Agniveer’ in the Indian Army

It is said that if one’s resolve is strong and one’s dedication to a goal is strong, even hardship cannot hinder success. Young wrestler Anjit Kumar Munda, from Sugiya, a small village in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh district, has proven this to be true. During the Khelo India Tribal Games held at Gandhi Stadium in Ambikapur, Anjit performed brilliantly and won the gold medal in the 67-kilogram wrestling category.

Journey from struggle to success
Anjit, who reached the pinnacle of success at the age of just 20, has had a life full of challenges. After his father passed away in 2009, his mother took care of the family through farming and hard work. Anjit started wrestling in 2017-18 and trained rigorously at the JSSPS Sports Academy for about 6 years. Seeing his physical ability and technique, the trainers honed him for wrestling.

Anjit is serving in the Indian Army as an “Agniveer.”
His athletic talent and passion for serving the nation led him to the Indian Army. Last year, he was selected for the rank of “Agniveer GD.” He credits his coach for this success.

A big platform for tribal talent
Expressing his happiness over his victory, Anjit Munda said, “The Khelo India Tribal Games is an excellent platform for tribal children like us, who are often left behind in the mainstream. It is a matter of pride for me to win gold in this competition, which is being held for the first time. Now my next goal is to give my best in the upcoming competitions to be held in Chhattisgarh.”

Hope for a bright future:
Anjit, who was previously denied a scholarship for winning a bronze medal, now hopes to receive support and a scholarship from the central government after winning the gold medal, so he can bring glory to the country internationally. Anjit’s achievement at the ongoing Khelo India Tribal Games in Ambikapur has become a source of inspiration not only for tribal youth in Jharkhand but for the entire country.
