On the occasion of World Mental Health Day, the Department of Psychology at MATS University organized Mental Health Awareness Program on the occasion of World Mental Health Day. This year’s theme, set by the World Federation for Mental Health, was “It is Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace”. The program, which ran from October 1 to October 10, featured a number of activities aimed at raising mental health awareness.
The event commenced with a poster competition, where many students actively participated. Mary Grace Momo, an international student from the Department of Psychology, won first prize, while Durva Dave secured second place, and Anamta Quni claimed third.
A flash mob performance was organized at Magneto Mall to further engage the public, followed by a skit presentation in Amethi village and at Marine Drive to spread awareness about mental health. A guest lecture on suicide prevention was also conducted during the event series.
On October 10, the chief guest, Lieutenant General Ashok Jindal, Director General of AIIMS Raipur, delivered a powerful speech. He emphasized that excessive pressure and demands in life are major contributors to stress today. He stressed the importance of time and work management to maintain balance between professional and personal life. Drawing on examples from his 40-year military career, Lieutenant General Jindal highlighted that setbacks such as academic failure or delayed promotions are not life defeats; rather, they can be overcome through continuous effort and improvement. He also explained that managing depression and anxiety requires identifying solutions and taking proactive steps toward mental well-being.
Professor K.P. Yadav, Vice Chancellor of MATS University, addressed the audience, encouraging the youth to prioritize health management to ensure a brighter and more prosperous future.
The event was attended by Chancellor Shri Gajraj Pagariya, Director General Shri Priyesh Pagariya, Registrar Shri Gokulananda Panda, Head of the Department of Psychology Dr. Shaista Ansari, along with heads of various departments, faculty members, and students. The program concluded with a vote of thanks, marking the successful end of the mental health awareness initiative.
