Pramila, a millionaire, writes a new story of self-reliance from a grocery and slipper shop.

The National Livelihood Mission has given women power a new identity and direction. Along with this, women trained, inspired and guided through small groups are moving forward on a new path of self-reliance. It is noteworthy that women who were sitting at home as housewives while facing the pangs of unemployment are now making themselves self-reliant. Mrs. Pramila, a resident of Devadand village under Khargawan development block of MCB district, has established herself as “Lakhpati Didi” on the strength of her self-confidence, hard work and collective cooperation. Her success story has emerged as an inspiring example of rural women empowerment and self-reliance.

  • An early life full of struggles

There was a time when Pramila’s family was living on limited resources. Meeting daily needs was challenging with an annual income of approximately 50,000 rupees, leaving the family grappling with financial instability and uncertainty about the future.

  • Self-help group provides a strong base

The transformation in Pramila’s life began with her joining the Mahima Self Help Group. This 10-member group taught her the importance of savings, cooperation, and self-reliance. Under the guidance of the group’s president, Mrs. Rita, and secretary, Mrs. Rameshwari, she benefited from various schemes.

  • Big success from small business

With a bank loan of approximately 80,000 rupees obtained through the group, Pramila opened a small grocery and slipper shop. This initiative proved to be a turning point in her life and a decisive step towards economic empowerment.

  • Enhance livelihoods, improve standard of living

Over time, her business expanded and new sources of income developed. Currently, Pramila earns approximately 25,000 rupees annually from labor and approximately 180,000 rupees from her grocery and slipper shop. This has significantly improved her family’s standard of living and made her financially strong.

  • Lakhpati Didi became an inspiration

Today, Pramila is a source of inspiration for the women of her village and surrounding areas. Her identity as “Lakhpati Didi” serves as a powerful example of her struggle, hard work, and self-confidence. She has proven that with the right guidance, collective support, and strong willpower, any difficult situation can be turned into an opportunity.

This achievement of Pramila is not only a story of personal success, but it is also a living example of women empowerment in rural areas and the steps taken towards self-reliant India.
