Municipal corporation’s didis became Amrit Mitras
Women of self-help groups will also clean tanks, maintain gardens and do water testing
Under the guidance of Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, Raipur Municipal Corporation has given a new identity to the affiliated self-help groups as “Amrit Mitra”. Under the direction of Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Administration Minister Shri Arun Sao, Raipur Municipal Corporation is the first such municipal corporation in Chhattisgarh, which has given big responsibility on the field to the members of self-help groups in Amrit cities to make every household aware about pure drinking water management, water conservation, preservation and water utility. Raipur Municipal Corporation is the first body to take a step towards economic self-reliance of the group by giving honorarium to these group members.
According to Municipal Corporation Commissioner Mr. Abinash Mishra, the Municipal Corporation is working towards the availability of pure drinking water in Raipur urban area under Amrit Mission. Every household should be connected with better water management, support government efforts towards water conservation and promotion with frugality, for this the responsibility of public awareness has been given to the sisters of the self-help group associated with the Municipal Corporation. The sisters of the group will also play their role in the maintenance of gardens, as well as will play their responsibility in expanding awareness regarding every activity related to water, honorarium has also been fixed for this.
Commissioner Mr. Mishra further informed that the women self-help groups will take forward the water security campaign by taking help of folk artists in eco-friendly garden beautification, tree plantation, wall painting, graffiti painting along with important works like cleaning of water tank premises, water quality test through field testing kit at the home of the end consumer beneficiary and water testing from authorized agency or organization.
It is known that the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Government of India had recently issued guidelines under the Amrit Mitra Yojana to connect such self-help groups with the expansion of public awareness and to make proper efforts towards water management. Raipur Municipal Corporation has complied with these instructions and has first handed over the responsibility to the Amrit Mitra Squad. These women will receive an honorarium of Rs 7200/- per month as determined by the state government.
