International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on March 8th. This day provides an opportunity to honor the contributions of women to society, their rights, and their empowerment. The Central and Chhattisgarh governments are implementing various schemes for the social, economic, and educational empowerment of women, the positive impact of which is now visible in every village.
In Dhamtari district, too, continuous efforts are being made to empower women with self-reliance and independence through government schemes and programs. Women in rural and tribal areas, in particular, are joining self-help groups, not only strengthening their economic status but also establishing strong identities within their families and society.
A large number of women in the district have been linked to self-help groups under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (Bihar). Through these groups, women are earning income through various livelihood activities, including savings and internal credit arrangements. Many women’s groups are moving towards self-reliance through farming, vegetable production, mushroom cultivation, poultry farming, goat rearing, dairy farming, fish farming, and small enterprises.
In rural areas, women’s groups are promoting activities such as organic farming, vegetable production, and nutrition gardening. This not only increases women’s income but also improves family nutrition. The government is encouraging women towards entrepreneurship by providing training, bank loan facilities, marketing support, and necessary resources.
In several villages of Dhamtari district, women’s groups have successfully implemented collective production and marketing initiatives. This has boosted women’s self-confidence and allowed them to play an active role in economic decisions. Many women’s groups are selling their products at local markets as well as at various fairs and exhibitions.

In addition, the government is implementing numerous schemes aimed at women’s health, education, and safety. Women’s overall development is being encouraged through maternal and child health services, nutrition programs, and skill development training.
Today, women in Dhamtari district are no longer confined to their homes, but are making significant contributions to social development through farming, entrepreneurship, self-help groups, and other economic activities. As a result of government schemes and collective efforts, women in rural and tribal areas are setting new examples of self-reliance.
On International Women’s Day 2026, it’s clear that when women receive opportunities, resources, and encouragement, they play a vital role in the development of not only their families but also society as a whole. With this same confidence and determination, the women of Dhamtari district are steadily moving forward on the path to self-reliance.
This year’s Women’s Day theme is “Give and Gain.” Its message is that when we provide support, cooperation, and opportunities, the positive benefits accrue to society as a whole. Let us all work together in a spirit of collaboration and participation to promote gender equality and move towards women’s empowerment.
