  • Lakhs of rupees are spent in private hospitals, free surgery in medical college under Ayushman Yojana

The orthopedic department of Sant Baba Guru Ghasidas Ji Smriti Government Hospital, affiliated with Raigarh Medical College, has now successfully launched facilities for complex surgeries such as knee and hip replacements. Patients who previously had to travel to major cities and spend lakhs of rupees for such operations are now receiving safe treatment using state-of-the-art technology under the supervision of specialist doctors in their own district.
This achievement is due in part to the state government’s continued efforts to strengthen the health sector.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai, continuous work is being done to strengthen the health infrastructure. Under the guidance of Health Minister Shri Shyam Bihari Jaiswal and Finance Minister Shri O.P. Chaudhary, state-of-the-art medical facilities are rapidly expanding at Raigarh Medical College.

This new facility has been started under the leadership of Dean Dr. Santosh Kumar and Hospital Superintendent Dr. Manoj Kumar Minj, due to which the people of the district are getting high quality treatment in their own city. Dean Dr. Santosh Kumar said that in private hospitals, the cost of per joint replacement surgery is around Rs 2.5 to 3 lakh, whereas due to the availability of this facility in Government Medical College Raigarh, patients are getting free and high quality treatment under Ayushman Yojana. This is not only reducing the financial burden, but the people of the district are also getting the benefit of better health facilities in their own city.

28-year-old patient Chhaviraj Kumar said he had been suffering from a serious leg problem for a long time, which made it difficult to walk. He initially consulted a private hospital, where the surgery was estimated to cost approximately 2.5 lakh rupees. Financially, this was very difficult for him.

He said that upon learning about the launch of surgery facilities under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme at Raigarh Medical College Hospital, he underwent treatment there. After the successful operation, he no longer has any problems with his leg. He said that he began walking on the second day after the operation and is now able to move around with complete ease and confidence. Expressing his gratitude to the team of doctors and hospital management, Chhaviraj said that receiving free and high-quality treatment has brought a significant positive change to his life.

Dr. Praveen Jangde, Head of the Department of Orthopedics, stated that joint replacement surgery is a highly effective treatment for patients suffering from arthritis, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, joint damage after an accident, or chronic knee and hip pain. He explained that after surgery, patients’ pain significantly decreases and they rapidly return to normal life. Improved mobility is resulting in positive changes in patients’ quality of life. Dr. Jangde appealed to the public not to ignore chronic knee or hip problems and to seek timely consultation with specialist doctors in the Orthopedics Department’s OPD for appropriate treatment.

Hospital Superintendent Dr. M.K. Minj stated that the hospital offers knee and hip replacements using state-of-the-art technology and following established medical protocols. These surgeries are performed with complete safety and efficiency by an expert team led by Dr. Praveen Jangde, Head of the Orthopedics Department, and Dr. A.M. Lakra, Head of the Anesthesia Department. In the past few days, approximately 10 patients have undergone successful surgery, including five hip and five knee replacements.
