The expert talk on “The Future of Literary Studies: Interdisciplinarity, Technology and Global Engagement” Held at English Department

The Department of English, MATS University, Pandri organized a guest lecture on the theme “The Future of Literary Studies: Interdisciplinarity, Technology and Global Engagement.” Dr. Suparna Karkun, Eminent Academician, delivered the session. In her lecture, she highlighted the expanding interdisciplinary scope of literary research and emphasized how literature today connects with diverse fields such as cultural studies, sociology, media, medical science and technology.
She also introduced research scholars to emerging areas like Digital Humanities and Medical Humanities. Dr.Suparna explained how technological tools could help preserving oral tradition in the form of digital archives. The speaker further discussed the role of literature in centre of any study and Research. Literature research can connect with multiple approach like Eco-Feminism, climate fiction but while writing the readers should also be kept in mind. Dr.Karkun encouraged students and researchers to engage with international scholarship and collaborative research practices.
Dr.Ranjana Das Sarkhel, Head, Department of English, further elaborated on the enduring importance of books and reading culture. Emphasizing critical thinking and deep learning, the Head advised students to strengthen their engagement with original texts and scholarly reading while maintaining a balanced and mindful use of AI tools in academic work.
The lecture concluded with an interactive session, where students and research scholars actively participated and shared their queries. Faculty members, research scholars and students attended the program in large numbers.
