Masulapani Panchayat of Kanker District Receives Second Prize at National Level for Outstanding Work in Water Conservation

The Gram Panchayat of Masulapani in Kanker district has been honoured with the second prize in the category of Best Panchayat at the 5th National Water Awards Ceremony for its remarkable work in the field of water conservation. The award was presented today at a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi by the Union Minister for Jal Shakti, Shri C.R. Patil, to the Sarpanch of Masulapani, Smt. Ramiya Netam.

It is noteworthy that Masulapani Panchayat has undertaken significant initiatives in water conservation. The panchayat has constructed a total of 161 watershed structures, including 99 farm ponds. In addition, during the year 2023, it carried out the construction of 39 brushwood structures, desilting of a community pond, 2 wells, 2 underground dams, 3 gabion structures, and other facilities. As a result, the residents have started utilizing surface water for irrigation. The award recognises the panchayat’s innovative approach towards water conservation and its effective utilization.

The Ministry of Jal Shakti has launched a comprehensive campaign at the national level to spread awareness about water management and conservation. The National Water Awards aim to generate awareness about the importance of water and inspire people to adopt the best water usage practices.

The National Water Awards (NWA) focus on recognising the efforts of individuals and organizations across the country in achieving the government’s vision of a ‘Water Rich India.’ These awards are intended to raise awareness about the value of water and motivate people to adopt optimal water usage practices.
