- Zone-4 officials summoned to headquarters and reprimanded; instructions issued to fix accountability
Mayor Smt. Meenal Chaubey has taken a serious view of the unauthorized installation of decorative arches at Jayastambh Chowk—a key public landmark in the heart of Raipur—and the illegal erection of a large gate on the main road. Upon learning of the incident, the Mayor immediately summoned the concerned Zone-4 officials to the Municipal Corporation headquarters, reprimanded them sternly, and directed that accountability for the entire episode be fixed.
The Mayor questioned the officials as to how the arches and the large gate came to be installed at a public site and on a main road without obtaining any permission from the Municipal Corporation. She stated that rules and regulations in the city apply equally to everyone; no individual, organization, or event organizer can be granted the liberty to disregard the rules.
Mayor Smt. Meenal Chaubey clearly stated that Jayastambh Chowk is a prominent public space in Raipur, and erecting such a gate on the main road is not merely a violation of rules but a serious matter concerning traffic management and the safety and convenience of the general public. In such instances, it is the responsibility of the concerned officials to take timely action.
She directed the officials to immediately identify—using CCTV footage—the individuals or organizations responsible for installing the arches and the gate. She ordered that the concerned parties be identified, action be taken in accordance with Municipal Corporation rules, and a report on the entire matter be submitted.
The Mayor emphasized that public spaces are not private property. No one can be permitted to disrupt traffic or disturb the city’s order in the name of organizing an event.
Issuing strict instructions to the officials, she said, “Action will be taken against those who violate the rules, and accountability will also be fixed for officials who show negligence in enforcing them.” The Mayor clarified that merely completing the formalities of taking action is not enough; it must also be ensured that such incidents do not recur in the future. The Mayor instructed zonal officials to maintain continuous surveillance in their respective areas, keep a special watch on sensitive and major intersections, and take immediate action against any unauthorized temporary structures.
