Fifth-semester Labor Law students of Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU), Raipur, conducted an industrial field visit to the Bhilai Steel Plant on September 12, 2026. The visit provided valuable practical experience to students, providing a first-hand understanding of the workings and operations of one of India’s premier steel manufacturing facilities. The objective of this educational visit was to provide students with an opportunity to understand the practical aspects of labor and industrial laws and to connect classroom knowledge with real-world industrial workplace situations.
During the visit, students were introduced to the various processes of steel production, from raw material processing to the various stages of manufacturing. During a guided tour of the plant and its various facilities , students observed and understood firsthand the industrial processes, operations, and workplace practices.
The students also interacted with the plant’s officers and employees, engaging in meaningful discussions about their roles, responsibilities, and work experiences. This interaction provided valuable insight into the functioning of a large industrial establishment. They also had the opportunity to gain a closer understanding of working conditions, occupational safety, employee welfare , and the industrial environment.
The visit was particularly valuable for law students , as it provided them with an opportunity to understand the practical application of labor and industrial laws . Students observed how legal principles related to workers’ rights, workplace safety, welfare measures, employer-employee relations , and industrial practices operate in real industrial situations.
This visit also demonstrates HNLU’s commitment to experiential and practice-oriented legal education . Students at the university are encouraged to develop a comprehensive understanding of the law and its practical applications by engaging with institutions, workplaces, and real-life situations.
Dr. Atul Jaibhaye, Ms. Garima Panwar, and Dr. Shailesh Pandey were instrumental in conceptualizing and developing the pedagogical framework for this industrial visit . This initiative, designed by the faculty team, enriched students’ experiential learning and provided them with an opportunity to understand the law in the context of an industrial setting.
