The Bhoramdev Cooperative Sugar Factory, which has earned the distinction of achieving the highest sugar recovery rate in the country for two consecutive years, has offered another major benefit to farmers. Today, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma inaugurated the distribution of 50 kg of sugar to 28,000 shareholder sugarcane farmers at a concessional rate of ₹30 per kilogram. This marks the third consecutive year that sugar is being made available to farmers at a concessional rate. Shri Ramvichar Netam, Minister for Tribal Development, Agriculture Development & Farmers’ Welfare, and Biotechnology, joined the event virtually. Congratulations and best wishes were extended to the local residents, shareholder farmers, and employees on the Bhoramdev Cooperative Sugar Factory, Kawardha, receiving the efficiency award for highest sugar recovery from the National Cooperative Sugar Federation, New Delhi, for the years 2024-25 and 2025-26. On this occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma announced the construction of a dome structure within the factory premises for the convenience of the farmers.
Deputy Chief Minister Shri Sharma stated that this factory belongs to the farmers, and its strength is possible only through their participation. He noted that the distribution of sugar at a concessional rate to farmers has commenced for the third consecutive year at the Bhoramdev Cooperative Sugar Factory. This year, 4,686 new farmers have been enrolled as shareholders. Consequently, approximately 28,000 shareholder farmers are now being provided with 50 kg of sugar at the rate of ₹30 per kilogram. He stated that this benefit accruing to the farmers is a significant outcome of the spirit of cooperation and their association with the factory. The Deputy Chief Minister noted that 2.55 lakh metric tonnes of sugarcane were crushed at the factory last year. A target has been set to increase this to 4 lakh metric tonnes this year. Additionally, a goal has been established to secure sugarcane supply contracts with 10,000 farmers.
He appealed to the farmers to enter into contracts with the factory and supply sugarcane in large numbers so that the factory can continue to operate smoothly. He remarked that the factory would progress only with the farmers’ cooperation, and the benefits would ultimately reach them as well. Public representatives and farmers present on the occasion included former Parliamentary Secretary Dr. Siyaram Sahu, Zila Panchayat Vice-President Shri Kailash Chandravanshi, Zila Panchayat Member Shri Ram Kumar Bhatt, Bodla Nagar Panchayat President Shri Vijay Patil, former Zila Panchayat President Shri Videshiram Dhurve, Shri Santosh Patel, Shri Maniram Sahu, Shri Bhuvneshwar Chandrakar, Shri Ramkinkar Verma, and Shri Khileshwar Sahu.
- Distinction of Highest Recovery in the Country for Two Consecutive Years
Deputy Chief Minister Shri Sharma stated that the Bhoramdev Cooperative Sugar Factory has achieved the distinction of recording the highest recovery rate in the entire country for the years 2024–25 and 2025–26. The factory has also been awarded a certificate for this achievement. He remarked that superior recovery is not merely the factory’s achievement but the result of the farmers’ hard work; the factory has reached this high level thanks to the quality sugarcane produced by the farmers and their diligence. He added that the combination of the farmers’ hard work, the efficiency of the factory management, and the spirit of cooperation is giving the Bhoramdev Sugar Factory a new identity. The Deputy Chief Minister highlighted that the greatest feature of a cooperative society is that the profits generated are shared among all members, making the cooperative model a useful and beneficial system for farmers. He urged the farmers to associate with the factory, become shareholders, and further strengthen its operations through sugarcane supply contracts. He also assured the farmers that the support price bonus would be increased.

Minister for Agriculture Development, Farmers’ Welfare, and Biotechnology, Shri Ramvichar Netam, stated that today is a very significant day. It is a matter of joy that sugar is being distributed to farmers amidst preparations for the Teeja festival and Ganesh Chaturthi. Festivals require sweetness for prasad and traditional delicacies; at such a time, the availability of sugar to farmers at concessional rates will add further sweetness to the festive celebrations. He mentioned that the arrangement for sugar distribution in the interest of farmers has been resumed following the directives of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai and the efforts of Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma.
The hard work and diligence of the farmers of Kawardha have earned the state a new identity. Superior sugarcane production and a high sugar recovery rate are the results of the farmers’ hard work. Minister Shri Netam stated that the government aims to provide better facilities to sugarcane-growing farmers and to further boost sugarcane production. The government will also make necessary efforts to increase the bonus for the benefit of farmers. He remarked that the sugar produced through the farmers’ hard work is reaching their homes on this festive occasion, adding sweetness to their celebrations.
