Once upon a time, she had to borrow money to run her household. The worry of business losses and mounting debt was a constant monthly concern. But today, driving a pink e-auto, Mrs. Resham Sahu of Bendri village is not only shouldering her family’s financial responsibilities but also establishing a new identity of self-reliance. This transformation in Resham’s life demonstrates that when women receive opportunities, resources, and support, they can navigate even difficult situations.
Resham Sahu, a resident of Bendri village in Abhanpur block of Raipur district, is associated with the Kalyani Samarthan Mahila Self-Help Group. Until recently, Resham ran a general store and tailored with her husband, Harish Sahu. Their combined monthly income was around 8,000 to 10,000 rupees. Running the household with limited income wasn’t easy, often requiring borrowing money to meet family needs.
- The debt from her small business increased, and Resham, worried,
had taken out a loan of 60,000 rupees to expand her business. Circumstances were not favorable, and with the increase in interest, the amount increased to ₹1.83 lakh. After suffering financial losses from her general store and tailoring business, Resham was also burdened with the additional burden of a personal loan installment of ₹12,000 per month.
At such a time, the Pink E-Auto became not just a vehicle for her, but a new support to manage the family’s financial situation.
- The Pink E-Auto became a new wheel of hope
After receiving the Pink E-Auto, Resham began driving the e-auto herself. As her hard work increased, so did her income. Today, she earns around ₹25,000 to ₹30,000 per month. With her earnings, she has also repaid the increased debt. By regularly paying her ₹12,000 monthly installment, she is now able to meet her family’s needs better than before.
For Resham, this change is not limited to just increased income. The same woman who once worried about loans and debts amid financial difficulties is now standing on her own feet and actively participating in family responsibilities.

Efforts to connect women associated with self-help groups with employment and self-employment opportunities are providing women like Resham the opportunity to advance according to their potential.

Under the guidance of Finance, Housing, and Environment Minister Shri O.P. Choudhary, ‘Project Pink E-Auto’ is being implemented in Nawa Raipur Atal Nagar to connect women with safe, accessible, and environmentally friendly transportation and sustainable livelihoods. This initiative, jointly implemented by the Nawa Raipur Atal Nagar Development Authority and the National Rural Livelihood Mission (Bihan), is creating new employment opportunities for women.
Resham Sahu expresses her gratitude to Minister Shri O.P. Choudhary for this initiative. She says that the Pink E-Auto has given her the opportunity to earn income through her hard work and strengthen her family’s financial situation.
- 92 women have found a new source of livelihood
In both phases of ‘Project Pink E-Auto’, a total of 92 women from self-help groups have been provided with e-autos and connected to livelihoods. This includes 40 women beneficiaries in the first phase and 52 in the second phase. This initiative, along with connecting women to employment, is also promoting women-centric, safe, and environmentally friendly public transportation in Nawa Raipur.
