- Paddy Procurement System to Become More Transparent and Robust
The Government of Chhattisgarh has taken a significant step towards the accurate, transparent, and technology-based assessment of the area under paddy cultivation in the state. A crucial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed today at the Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhawan between the Directorate of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection and the Chhattisgarh Council of Science and Technology. This agreement aims to make the state’s paddy procurement system more transparent and robust through the better coordination of satellite-based mapping, digital crop surveys, and geospatial data. Regarding the mapping of non-geo-referenced areas, agricultural lands—specifically those allocated under the Forest Rights Act (FRA) and those located in submergence zones that are not currently digitally mapped—will be identified, and GIS-based polygon layers will be created for them.
Assessment for Kharif Marketing Year 2026-27: An accurate assessment of the actual paddy cultivation area for the upcoming Kharif Marketing Year 2026-27 will be conducted based on the prepared polygon layers and geospatial data. Verification via Satellite Imagery: The digital presence of the paddy crop will be confirmed by cross-referencing the latitude and longitude of land parcels (Khasras) in other geo-referenced areas with satellite imagery. This technical initiative will strengthen the digital identification of agricultural land in remote and inaccessible areas—including FRA and submergence zones—and establish a robust foundational framework for digital crop surveys.
