A departmental workshop on the “Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025” was held at the New Auditorium in Project Bhawan, Dhurwa, with the aim of ensuring the security of citizens’ personal data. The workshop was organized by C-DAC, Kolkata—under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India—in coordination with the Department of Information Technology and e-Governance, Government of Jharkhand.
Addressing the workshop, IT Director Ms. Madhavi Mishra stated that the primary objective of this Act is to ensure the protection of citizens’ personal data. She noted that people share their data trusting the government, and safeguarding this trust is our utmost responsibility. She emphasized that rapid strides in digital governance bring new challenges that must be effectively addressed. This workshop was organized to train officials from various departments on aspects related to data security, privacy, and compliance. She added that such training would not only strengthen the government machinery but also further reinforce citizens’ trust.
Senior officials from various departments, IT experts, and administrative officers participated in the event. The workshop aimed to familiarize officials with the key provisions, obligations, and compliance procedures of the DPDP Act, 2023, thereby making data security and privacy governance in government services more effective.
Expert speakers highlighted that the responsibility for data security has grown alongside the increasing use of digital platforms. They shed light on the legal aspects of data processing, citizens’ rights, and the accountability of data fiduciaries. Additionally, the challenges regarding potential cyber risks and data leaks were highlighted.
Participants received practical training during the workshop through case studies, presentations, and interactive sessions. Officials were briefed on essential measures to strengthen cybersecurity and maintain data privacy.
On this occasion, Mr. Mrinmoy Das (Executive Director, C-DAC) and Dr. Chas Murthy (Executive Director, Hyderabad) shared their insights on various aspects of data policy and privacy governance. Dr. Sandeep Chatterjee, former GC (Cyber Law) at MeitY, joined the session virtually.
The speakers emphasized that the effective implementation of data protection laws is essential alongside the expansion of Digital India. Departments must adopt high standards of transparency, accountability, and security.
At the conclusion of the program, participants described the workshop as beneficial and stressed the need for organizing such events regularly.
