From the Sports Field to Self-Employment: Pushpendra’s ‘Extreme Fitness Hub’ Guides 600 Youths Toward Better Health

With strong willpower, proper guidance, and the support of government schemes, the dreams of youth from remote areas can truly take flight. The story of Pushpendra Sharma from Narayanpur district is a living example of this. Pushpendra, who once taught the nuances of cricket to young people on the field, is now providing health and fitness facilities to over 600 youths and citizens of the district through his ‘Extreme Fitness Hub’.

  • Starting with Cricket Coaching

Pushpendra Sharma’s journey began with cricket coaching. As a coach at a local cricket club, he trained children and youths, preparing them for the Under-19 level. While working with players, he realized that superior physical fitness and regular exercise were essential for honing sports skills. He had long felt the absence of a state-of-the-art gym and fitness center in Narayanpur.

  • Financial Challenges and Support from the District Industries Centre

Although Pushpendra conceived the idea of opening a fully equipped fitness center in Narayanpur, limited financial resources posed a major hurdle. At this juncture, he approached the District Trade and Industries Centre in Narayanpur. Department officials reviewed his business plan, prepared a loan proposal under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), and forwarded it to the bank for approval.

  • Dream Realized at a Cost of ₹5 Lakh

Pushpendra’s dream became a reality through financial assistance received from Canara Bank under the scheme. The ‘Extreme Fitness Hub’ was established in Banglapara, Narayanpur, at a total cost of ₹5 lakh. For this project, 90 percent of the funds were secured through a bank loan, while the remaining 10 percent was raised from Pushpendra’s own capital. Over 600 Members Benefiting

What began as a commercial venture has now evolved into a hub of health and wellness for the youth and citizens of Narayanpur. Currently, more than 600 registered members are regularly engaging in exercise and fitness training here.

  • An Example of Social Service through Self-Employment

Pushpendra Sharma shares that starting a gym with limited capital in a region like Narayanpur was no easy task. Government schemes, guidance from officials, and financial assistance from Canara Bank helped turn his vision into reality.
Pushpendra Sharma’s journey under the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ demonstrates that when steps are taken in the right direction, government schemes not only empower individuals to become self-reliant but also serve as a catalyst for positive change across society.
