On the occasion of the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ (Service Pledge Campaign) and the International Day of Older Persons, the message of a drug-free society and nation-building resonated with great enthusiasm at Mono Knight English Medium School in Dhamtari. The chief guest, Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management Shri Tank Ram Verma, administered the pledge for a drug-free life to the large gathering present. Describing the youth as the core strength of the nation, he called upon them to play a leading role in building a healthy, aware, and responsible society by staying away from substance abuse.

Minister Shri Verma stated that drug addiction does not merely affect an individual but drags families, society, and future generations into an abyss. Collective public participation is essential to eradicate this menace completely. He appealed to the youth, students, and voluntary organizations to become part of the ‘Nashamukt Bharat Abhiyan’ (Drug-Free India Campaign) and spread public awareness to every village.

During the ceremony, public representatives, officials, the elderly, and the youth pledged not only to stay away from drugs themselves but also to protect their families, friends, and those around them from this social evil. A clear message was conveyed during the event that de-addiction is not merely a government campaign but the moral and social responsibility of every citizen.

The main highlight of the event was a street play (nukkad natak) performed by volunteers from the National Service Scheme (NSS) and the Indian Red Cross Society of Government Higher Secondary School, Khartuli. This play, produced under the guidance of the Principal and the writing and direction of Lecturer Mr. Akash Giri Goswami, vividly portrayed themes such as a drug-free India, a developed India (Viksit Bharat) by 2047, and social service. Through powerful performances, the artists demonstrated that if youth energy is steered away from substance abuse and channeled towards education, skill development, and national service, the country can scale new heights of progress.

The event was attended by numerous public representatives, administrative officials, and distinguished citizens, including the Chairman of the Cooperative Bank, the District Panchayat President, the Municipal Corporation Chairperson, the District Panchayat Chairperson, the Janpad President, the District Collector, the District Panchayat CEO, and the DFO.
