- ‘Women are saving time and effort by being freed from the hassle of fetching water’
Under the government’s ambitious Jal Jeevan Mission, providing clean drinking water through taps to every household is making the daily lives of rural families easier. In this context, the tap water supply scheme started under the Jal Jeevan Mission in the forest village of Nundarha in the Tamnar development block of Raigarh district has helped in solving the age-old drinking water problem of the villagers. The village women, who once had to struggle from morning to collect water, are now getting water at their homes.
Before the implementation of the scheme in Nundarha village, villagers had to travel far to get drinking water due to insufficient water availability near their homes. This affected women the most. During the summer, the shortage of water in traditional water sources further exacerbated the problem. Mrs. Shanti Chauhan, a resident of the village, also faced this problem. Now that tap water is available at home, she no longer has to travel as far to get water as before.

This has made her daily chores easier and brought relief to her family. The scheme has provided families in Nundarha village with drinking water at their homes. This has reduced the time and labor required to fetch water. It has also made water available for everyday tasks like cooking, cleaning utensils, and personal hygiene.
‘The scheme reached 331 families’
The village of Nundarha in the Tamnar development block is located approximately 47 kilometers from the district headquarters, Raigarh. The village is home to 331 families and has a population of 1,281. The Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) has significantly transformed the village’s tap water supply system, providing drinking water to households. The mission also aims to provide rural families with adequate and safe drinking water through taps at home, eliminating the hassle of sourcing water.
