Chhattisgarh is known as the rice bowl of the country. Agriculture and farmers are the strong foundation of the state’s economy and rural life. Considering the prosperity of farmers as the foundation of the state’s development, the state government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, has taken several important decisions in the last three years to give a new direction to the agricultural sector. Efforts to ensure better prices for farmers’ produce, provide financial assistance, modernize farming, and bring transparency to the agricultural system are showing widespread impact. The procurement of approximately 437 lakh metric tons of paddy and payments of over ₹1.40 lakh crore to farmers in the last three years underscore the importance of paddy procurement in the state’s agricultural economy.
- Wide scope of paddy procurement and payment in three years
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Sai, about 144.92 lakh metric tonnes of paddy was procured in the Kharif marketing year 2023-24 and about 149.25 lakh metric tonnes in the year 2024-25. About 142 lakh metric tonnes of paddy was also procured in the year 2025-26. About 437 lakh metric tonnes of paddy was procured in these three Kharif seasons and about Rs 1.40 lakh crore was paid to the farmers. This system is strengthening the rural economy besides providing the farmers the price of their produce.
- Decision to procure paddy at the rate of Rs 3100 per quintal
In the interest of farmers, the Council of Ministers has decided to commence paddy procurement from November 15 in the Kharif marketing year 2026-27. This year, paddy will be procured from more than 27.50 lakh farmers at the rate of Rs 3100 per quintal with a maximum value of 21 quintals per acre. For the convenience of farmers, last year’s registered farmers with AgriStack ID have been exempted from re-registration. They will also not be required to bring their loan book to the committee for selling paddy. Transparency will be ensured through online determination of area through digital crop survey and biometric based procurement. With the opening of 360 new procurement centres this year, paddy will be procured through a total of 3100 centres in the state.
- Payment of more than Rs 35,904 crore from Krishak Unnati Yojana

Under the Krishak Unnati Yojana, which is being run to provide financial support to the farmers, Rs 35,904.90 crore has been paid to about 25.52 lakh farmers from Kharif 2023 to Kharif 2025. To encourage farmers who take up other profitable crops in place of paddy, the assistance amount has been increased from Rs 11 thousand to Rs 15 thousand per acre. Under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, an amount of more than Rs 12,267.39 crore has been provided to the farmers of the state so far.
- Emphasis on modern farming, irrigation, and crop diversification.
To modernize and make agriculture profitable, 8,567 agricultural implements have been provided and 678 farm machinery banks have been established since 2024-25. Under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana, drip and sprinkler irrigation has expanded to 46,615 hectares, and farmers have been provided with subsidies of over ₹201.07 crore. Geo-referencing of 19,751 villages has been completed through AgriStack, and over 4.3 million farmers have been registered.

over 16.70 lakh farmers were insured in Kharif and Rabi 2025-26, and claims worth ₹292.43 crore were paid to 1,40,730 farmers. To ensure fertilizer availability, over 18.02 lakh metric tons of fertilizer were stored against a target of 15.55 lakh metric tons in Kharif 2026. Inspections and action have also been taken against black marketing and hoarding.
In Chhattisgarh, with approximately 40 lakh farming families and 82 percent small and marginal farmers, agricultural development is directly linked to rural prosperity. These efforts made in the interest of farmers on the occasion of Rajyotsav highlight the important role agriculture plays in the state’s development journey. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, work is being done to empower farmers through paddy procurement, financial assistance, modern technology, irrigation, and crop diversification. The prosperity of the farmers, the prosperity of agriculture and the strength of the rural economy are the basis for the creation of a developed Chhattisgarh.
