PM Sheikh Hasina resigns

Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned and departed the country while protesters are storming the palace.

Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has stepped down and left the nation, with reports indicating she has arrived in Agartala, Tripura.

The resignation of Sheikh Hasina comes after widespread protests in Dhaka, where numerous individuals have gathered on the streets, resulting in clashes between demonstrators and law enforcement that have led to at least 98 fatalities on Sunday.

Demonstrators have managed to breach Sheikh Hasina’s official residence in Dhaka, with the unrest escalating over the past month as the government cracked down on anti-government protests.

What initially began as a student-led protest against civil service job quotas has transformed into a larger movement calling for Hasina’s resignation, resulting in the arrest of over 11,000 individuals and the closure of educational institutions nationwide.

Despite Hasina’s offer to engage in dialogue with student leaders, a coordinator rejected the proposal and instead demanded her immediate resignation, emphasizing the need for accountability for the violence that has occurred during the protests.
