Prime Minister’s Agricultural Irrigation Scheme

the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, continuous efforts are being made to increase agricultural production and area. Under the efforts of Agriculture Minister Shri Ramvichar Netam, irrigation facilities are being made available to 19 thousand 306 farmers of the state under the Prime Minister Agricultural Irrigation Scheme by providing them the benefit of sprinkler and drip irrigation system and irrigation facility is being made available in their 16 thousand 154 hectares of agricultural land. Farmers are also being encouraged to adopt sprinkler and drip irrigation system. Under this scheme, provision has been made for 55 percent subsidy for small marginal farmers and up to 45 percent subsidy for large farmers, so that farmers can take advantage of modern irrigation technology at low cost.

  • Sprinkler and drip irrigation systems save water by 30 to 40 percent

Officials from the Chhattisgarh State Seed and Agriculture Development Corporation stated that the use of sprinkler and drip irrigation systems provides crops with water as needed and evenly as possible. This is resulting in water savings of 30 to 40 percent. Furthermore, effective control of water wastage in the fields has become possible. Better use of limited water resources is making farming more profitable.

  • 20 to 30 percent increase in crop productivity

Drip irrigation systems are proving particularly beneficial for vegetables, fruits, horticulture, and cash crops, while sprinkler systems are increasing the productivity of pulses, oilseeds, and cereal crops. Farmers report that the use of these systems has resulted in a 20 to 30 percent increase in yield and a reduction in fertilizer and labor costs.

  • In the year 2025-26, till now, sprinkler sets have been installed in 12 thousand 12 hectares of fields of 15 thousand 757 farmers and drip systems have been installed in 3 thousand 942 hectares of fields of 3 thousand 549 farmers

Under this scheme, farmers are also being provided technical guidance, training, design approval and installation assistance. This has increased awareness among farmers about modern techniques and they are being encouraged to practice farming in a scientific manner. This scheme is proving to be a boon for farmers in drought and low rainfall affected areas. Due to higher production with less water, the economic condition of farmers is getting strengthened and their income is getting permanently increased. So far in the year 2025-26, sprinkler sets have been installed in 12 thousand 12 hectares in the fields of 15 thousand 757 farmers and drip systems have been installed in 3 thousand 942 hectares in the fields of 3 thousand 549 farmers.
