- From struggle to success: The inspiring story of Savitri Oraon.
- Training and financial support boosted her income, bringing her annual income to nearly Rs 8 lakh.
The state government is effectively implementing the Bihan program, run under the National Rural Livelihood Mission, with the aim of empowering rural women economically and making them self-reliant. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, women are being organized through self-help groups and provided with training, financial assistance, and self-employment opportunities. As a result, today rural women are not only strengthening their families’ economic standing but also establishing a new identity in society. In Korba district, Bihan is also helping many women move toward self-reliance.

In this context, Mrs. Savitri Oraon, a resident of Sargbundia village in the Kartala development block, has emerged as an inspiring example of self-reliance and empowerment for rural women. There was a time when her life was fraught with struggles due to limited income, financial insecurity, and the lack of a sustainable livelihood. Amid family responsibilities, a lack of resources made survival difficult. Joining a self-help group formed under the National Rural Livelihood Mission proved to be a turning point in her life, instilling confidence and renewed hope for progress.
Under the Bihan program, Mrs. Oraon received various trainings related to financial literacy, group management, enterprise development, and livelihood promotion. These trainings not only provided her with technical knowledge but also empowered her with the confidence to become self-reliant, develop decision-making skills, and leadership skills.
With the support of the district administration and NRLM, her self-help group was linked to the banking system, providing access to a revolving fund, community investment fund, and bank loans. Taking advantage of this financial support and training, she expanded her business. She is currently successfully operating a clothing business. Her continued hard work, proper guidance, and timely financial assistance have resulted in her annual income reaching approximately ₹8 lakh (approximately ₹8 lakh). This has improved her family’s financial situation, ensuring her children’s education, health, and nutrition, as well as increasing social respect. Today, she is not only economically empowered but has also emerged as a strong social leader. She inspires other women in her village to join self-help groups, adopt savings, and become self-reliant through self-employment.

She credits her success to Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai and the Korba district administration. She says that timely training, financial support, and guidance from the administration allowed her to move forward.
