To encourage girls and women to take up sports on the occasion of International Women’s Day, a one-day women’s sports competition was held yesterday at the Late B.R. Yadav State Sports Training Centre in Bahtarai, Bilaspur. Girls and women over the age of 12 participated enthusiastically in the competition.
The competition featured kabaddi, archery, basketball, volleyball, and hockey. The Girls’ Residential Kabaddi Academy, Bilaspur, won the kabaddi competition, and the Girls’ Residential Kabaddi Academy, Bilaspur, was the runner-up. Veer Shivaji Kabaddi Academy, Bilaspur, took third place, and Bilasa Girls’ College, Bilaspur, took fourth.
In the senior category of the archery competition, Sulochana Raj came first, Payal Maravi second and Maya Baghel third. In the junior category, Nandani Porte came first, Yamini Dhiwar second and Simran Khusro third. In the sub-junior category, Sneha came first, Nikita second and Vineeta Netam third, while in the mini category, Ekta Dhruv came first, Neha Yadav second and Smriti Netam third.

In the basketball competition, the Chhattisgarh Basketball Team, Bilaspur, was the winner, while Bilasa Girls’ College, Bilaspur, was the runner-up. In the volleyball competition, the team from Police Lines, Bilaspur, won, while the team from Rajkishore Nagar, Bilaspur, was the runner-up. Bilasa Girls’ College, Bilaspur, was awarded the consolation prize.
In the hockey competition, Team “A” from Late B.R. Yadav State Hockey Team, Bilaspur, emerged victorious, while Team “B” from Khelo India Hockey Team, Bilaspur, was runner-up. Team “C” from Hockey Bilaspur took third place, and Team “D” from Hockey Bilaspur received the consolation prize.
On the concluding day of the competition, the participants securing first, second and third positions were honoured with prize money. Assistant Director Mr. A. Ekka, Sports Officer Dr. Sunil Gaurha, Hockey Head Coach Mr. Ajit E. Lakra, Senior Coach Mr. Rakesh Toppo, Kabaddi Coach Mr. Dil Kumar Rathore, Volleyball Coach Mr. Hargulshan Singh, Mr. Srinivas Nair, Archery Assistant Coach APC Mr. Itwari Raj, Mr. Manmohan Patel along with officers and employees of Late B.R. Yadav State Sports Training Centre Bahtarai were present in the successful organisation of the programme.
