These days, a new echo is echoing through the streets of Taragaon, nestled in the remote forest region of Bastar district. This echo is the bright smile and clear words of 6-year-old Vikram Kashyap. Born into a working-class family, Vikram’s life began with struggles. Congenital cleft lip and palate not only made it difficult for him to eat, but his speech was also slurred. A deeper wound than his physical suffering was the inferiority complex of villagers’ stares and the hesitation he faced among his classmates. Vikram often hid his face and could only dream of laughing openly like other children.
Vikram’s luck changed when the government’s Chirayu team arrived at Taragaon for an Anganwadi checkup. During the checkup, the team members not only accurately diagnosed Vikram’s condition but also assured his father, Narsingh Kashyap, of the best possible treatment. Initially, the family had many apprehensions, but the sensitivity and constant communication of health department officials convinced them to undergo surgery. Under the able guidance of the Block Medical Officer, Community Health Center, Lohandiguda, District Early Intervention Center Manager, and Chief Medical and Health Officer, Jagdalpur, Vikram was taken to the Medicine Hospital in Raipur for better treatment.
At the Raipur hospital, a team of expert surgeons successfully operated on Vikram, restoring his cleft lip and palate. Within a few weeks, when Vikram returned to his village, Taragaon, the scene had completely changed. The once shy boy who once covered his face, now appeared before everyone as a confident child. Today, Vikram not only speaks clearly to his father but also supports his mother by helping with household chores. His father, Narsingh, proudly says that the government’s Chirayu scheme has proven to be a boon for his son.
Vikram’s success story, originating in the heart of Bastar, sends the message that with the administration’s promptness and proper implementation of plans, no child can be deprived of the hope of a bright future. For this happy change, Vikram’s parents have expressed their heartfelt gratitude to all the officials of the Health Department, Chief Medical and Health Officer, Block Medical Officer and District Early Intervention Centre Manager.
