The Chhattisgarh government is taking a major step toward promoting sports, tourism, and cultural heritage in the state by organizing the “Bastar Heritage Marathon 2026” on Sunday, March 22nd. This will be the state’s largest running event to date, starting from the historic Lalbag grounds in Jagdalpur and concluding at the world-famous Chitrakoot Falls. Running on this naturally beautiful route will provide participants with a unique experience of Bastar’s stunning valleys and cultural heritage.
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, describing the event as a matter of pride for Chhattisgarh, said that the Bastar Heritage Marathon is not just a sporting competition, but a celebration of the state’s rich tradition, natural wealth, and public participation. He said that with the message of “Bastar Runs, the Country Joins,” this event will not only promote fitness but also establish Bastar more firmly on the national and international tourism map. The Chief Minister also said that the state government aims to provide opportunities to local youth, promote employment generation, and accelerate regional development through such events.
The marathon has 42-kilometer (full marathon), 21-kilometer (half marathon), 10-kilometer (10-kilometer) and 5-kilometer (fun run) categories, allowing participants of all age groups and fitness levels. A total of ₹2.5 million (approximately $1.5 million) is on offer. The registration fee is only ₹299, and it is completely free for participants from all seven districts of the Bastar division, ensuring maximum local participation.
Extensive arrangements have been made along the marathon route to ensure the convenience and safety of participants. Refreshment Points (RPNs) will be set up at regular intervals along the route, providing energy drinks and water. Medical support, emergency services, and streamlined route management are also being ensured to ensure a safe and smooth experience for participants. To make this event even more memorable, each participant will receive a finisher medal, e-certificate, and professional running photographs. Exciting events, such as Zumba sessions and live DJs, will also be organized to keep participants motivated and energetic.

Based on the theme “Run for Nature, Run for Culture,” this marathon will be a powerful medium to showcase Bastar’s natural heritage and tribal culture to the entire nation. Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai appealed to athletes, fitness enthusiasts, and tourists from across the country to participate in this historic event, saying that this is not only an opportunity to run, but also to get to know Bastar closely and experience its heritage.
