- Geology and administrative management play an important role: Dr. Prashant Srivastava
Dr. Prashant Srivastava, Professor of Geology at the Government Vishwanath Yadav Tamskar Postgraduate Autonomous College, Durg, stated that public awareness, geology, and administrative management play a crucial role in watershed management. He urged every citizen to make efforts to conserve water at their own level. He was delivering a keynote address on “Watershed Management in Chhattisgarh,” organized by the Chhattisgarh Regional Branch of the Indian Institute of Public Administration at the Circuit House in Civil Lines yesterday.
Opening and Welcome Program The program began with the Institute’s Secretary, Mr. Anoop Kumar Srivastava, introducing the keynote speaker and presenting an outline of the topic. The Institute’s President and former Chief Secretary, Mr. Suyogya Kumar Mishra, welcomed Dr. Prashant Srivastava with a bouquet of flowers.
Detailed information was given on the geological conditions of Chhattisgarh. In his lecture, Dr. Srivastava described Chhattisgarh’s geological conditions, various rock types, and surface and underground water reserves in detail. He explained that rainwater harvesting and recharge pits are extremely helpful in increasing underground water storage.

Emphasizing water conservation and crop diversification, Dr. Srivastava emphasized the need for appropriate fees to prevent water misuse. Describing paddy fields as a major source of rainwater harvesting, he advised farmers to focus on other crops besides paddy.
Presentation of Ground Water Status During the lecture, the status of ground water in Bemetara, Navagarh and Balodabazar areas was effectively depicted through PowerPoint presentation.

At the end of the programme, Dr. Srivastava answered the questions asked by former Chief Secretary Shri Suyogya Kumar Mishra, former Additional Chief Secretary Smt.
