With the arrival of monsoon in the state, agricultural work has begun in full swing. So far, 10 percent of the target area of 4.77 lakh hectares has been sown in the state. This Kharif season, the target area for sowing has been set at 48.69 lakh hectares.
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai has directed the concerned officials to provide all necessary support to provide facilities to the farmers in farming. He has asked to distribute certified fertilizers and seeds to the farmers easily as per their demand. He has also given instructions to take strict action against any kind of negligence in the fertilizer-seed distribution system. Along with this, he has asked to keep a constant watch by storing sufficient fertilizers and seeds in the societies. Under the guidance of Agriculture Development and Farmers Welfare Minister Shri Ramvichar Netam, the officials of the Agriculture Department are keeping a constant watch on these.
So far, 7.28 lakh metric tons of fertilizer and 3.09 lakh quintals of certified seeds have been distributed to farmers in the state. Agriculture Department officials stated that the area under sowing is steadily increasing, as farming began with the onset of monsoon showers in the state. So far, 7.28 lakh hectares of various crops such as paddy, maize, kodo, kutki, arhar, mung, peanut, ramtil, etc. have been sown in the state, which is 10 percent of the target. The state government has set a target of sowing in 48.69 lakh hectares for this Kharif season. Agriculture Department officials stated that as of July 2, 2026, the state has recorded an average rainfall of 96.4 mm, while the state’s average annual rainfall is 1246.3 mm.
Officials informed that for Kharif 2026, the Seed Corporation has set a target of distributing 4.95 lakh quintals of certified seeds in the state. Out of this, 4.30 lakh quintals of seeds have been stored and 3.09 lakh quintals have been distributed to farmers so far, which is 62 percent of the demand. Last year, during the same period, 2.67 lakh quintals of certified seeds were distributed. Similarly, a target of distributing 15.55 lakh metric tons of fertilizers has been set in the state this Kharif season. Against this target, 13.16 lakh metric tons of fertilizers have been stored in the cooperative and private sectors. Against this storage, 7.28 lakh metric tons of fertilizers have been distributed to farmers, which is 47 percent of the target.
Officials stated that the state government is providing short-term agricultural loans through Kisan Credit Cards to facilitate farmers’ farming. As of June 30, loans worth ₹5,525 crore have been distributed for the 2026 Kharif season, compared to ₹4,517 crore during the same period last year. This year, a target of ₹8,800 crore has been set for loan distribution to farmers.
