- Bihan Yojana boosted confidence, custom hiring centres changed the face of farming
The Bihan Yojana, implemented in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh, is bringing positive change to the lives of rural women. This scheme not only empowers women with self-reliance but also connects them with modern agricultural techniques. Sodhi Tirpo of Dhodra village in Konta development block is an inspiring example.
Previously, the Sodhi Tirpo relied on ploughs and oxen and traditional methods for farming. Plowing and other agricultural tasks required considerable effort. Operating modern agricultural machinery was a new experience for them.
- Training boosted confidence
She received training in operating a power tiller at the Custom Hiring Center, run by the Tulsi Mahila Gram Sangathan under the guidance of the district administration. With the constant guidance of Cluster PRP Mrs. Pooja Kodi and her own efforts, she learned to operate the machine. Today, she operates the power tiller with complete confidence.
- Modern farming has increased convenience and production
Sodhi Tirpo uses modern technology to cultivate corn and chilies on her 30-decimal farm. Using a power tiller has made farming faster, easier, and less expensive than before. This has also improved crop quality and yield.
- Support for small farmers
The benefits of the custom hiring center aren’t limited to Sodhi Tirpo. Nearby small and marginal farmers are also renting agricultural equipment from the center at reasonable rates, enabling them to cultivate on time. This has reduced their costs and made farming more convenient.
- A new example of women empowerment
Sodhi Tirpo now not only operates agricultural machinery, but is also responsible for its maintenance and providing timely service to farmers. Her success has boosted the confidence of other women in the village and is inspiring them to adopt modern farming.
- Government scheme changed lives
Sodhi Tirpo’s story is proof that with the right training, guidance, and access to government programs, rural women can become self-reliant. The Bihan Yojana and Custom Hiring Center initiatives have not only strengthened her livelihood but also set a new example of women’s empowerment and modern agriculture in Sukma district.
